A new exhibition coincides with the re-opening of the much loved (and missed!) Kevin Street Library in partnership with Dublin’s Culture Connects.
“Place and Space” invites us to look at the some of the most-loved buildings in two of Dublin’s famous neighbourhoods, the Liberties and Rathmines. The two areas are linked through their red-brick libraries and colleges, built at the turn of the last century. These four institutions of culture and learning, located at the centre of their communities, have a special place in the hearts of many of their residents who have strong connections and memories of them.
This exhibition stemmed from a conversation between staff in The Liberties Senior College and Dublin’s Culture Connects’ Engagement Team from The National Neighbourhood. Alice Fitzgerald, a Photographer, who teaches at Liberties Senior College has been quietly documenting how the building’s architecture has been adapted to suit its needs over the years.
Building on this idea, we invited Artist Anne Maree Barry and Elaine Leigh, an Art Teacher in Rathmines College to respond to the three other buildings from their view points and through the medium they chose to use – film and photography.
Why not drop by to see the exhibition, and get reacquainted with one of Dublin’s beloved libraries!0
