This short film from the Ships Passing in the Night project shows some work by participating children and visual artist James Ó hAodha, who have been working together using maritime communication as a starting point.
Here you can see some images they created mimicking the light of a lighthouse to create an unusual group portrait. They also worked together to recreate a scene from the film Titanic, using dry ice and a boat… The children also recreated scenes from iconic group photographs and paintings including ‘Lunch Atop A Skyscraper’, ‘The Last Supper’, and Robert Ballagh’s ‘After Goya’, which they had seen and discussed in a visit to The Hugh Lane Gallery. Playing with the roles of performer and director, the groups took varying levels of ownership over the compositions.
