Setting alight to Ringsend, Sandymount, Irishtown and Pearse Street!

Co Author:

The ALIGHT! team from CoisCeim BROADREACH – Muirne Bloomer, Vanessa Daws and Hugh Brown – have been busy working with the community as part of this storytelling, dance, performance and art project since November of last year. The fruits of this work are being realised in the vibrant and busy programme of events that are taking place from now until 28 February 2017.

The ALIGHT! project has its very own bus – a bright orange double-decker – that has been decorated by artist Vanessa Daws working with community groups including children from St. Patrick’s National School, Ringsend and young people from St. Andrew’s Resource Centre. This bus will be present in the Irishtown, Pearse Street, Sandymount and Ringsend areas in the coming weeks and acts as a catalyst, venue and transport to some of the great programme events. Such as :

ALL ABOARD – A journey of discovery from Pearse St to Joyce Tower in Sandycove and back – giving its passengers the opportunity to hear local stories, poems and songs. Tuesdays 31 Jan; 7/21/28 February leaving at 10.30am from St Andrew’s Resource Centre, Pearse Street.

TEA DANCE – This Valentine’s Day Tea Dance is a special event that offers people from all areas the opportunity to socialise and enjoy live music, dance, tea and chat. Tuesday 14 February from 3.00-5.00pm at Clan na Gael Fontenoy GAA Club, Sean Moore Park, Ringsend.

MYSTERY HISTORY CABARET – This evening performance takes the form of a journey through some of the old Number 1 Bus route, and invites people to consider their neighbourhood in unexpected and playful ways. Local community members have been working with choreographer Muirne Bloomer and writer and performer Hugh Brown to bring you this site-specific performance involving colourful tales, great songs, real ghost stories and plenty of craic – 26-28 February at 8pm from St Patrick’s Church, Ringsend. This event is now SOLD OUT.

TELL YOUR STORY – Sharing memories and creative expression is the aim of ‘Tell Your Story’ with Muirne Bloomer and Hugh Brown inviting passersby to join them on the project bus to share and record stories and ideas for an evolving archive. This archive will attempt to capture a moment in time of the lives of the people of Irishtown, Pearse Street, Sandymount and Ringsend. Watch out on Wednesdays 1/8/15/22 February for the orange bus to pop up around the area.

All welcome!
