Chapter 1… at the National Concert Hall showcased the work created by community groups in Drimnagh, Ballyfermot and the South Circular Road as part of The National Neighbourhood : (Y)our Story final event series. Participants and audience members were treated to songs and a film premiere from the Bosco youth group, stories and prose from the Labre Park Women’s Group and got a sneak peak at the work created by the Amal Women’s Association and F2 Women’s Group. The evening was a colourful display of story and song, highlighting months of co-creation between the communities and artists such as Stephen James Smith, Myles O’Reilly, Sam Kavanagh, Dave Kelly, Slick, Helen Barry and Xanthe Gresham. Nigel Flegg welcomed a full house to the National Concert Hall and Deputy Lord Mayor Rebecca Moynihan spoke about The National Neighbourhood projects taking place across the city. As a native of Dublin 8, comedian Colm O’Regan provided a whimsical guide through the variety of performances taking place on the night.
(Y)our Story is part of The National Neighbourhood which in 2016/17 collaborated with communities in Ballyfermot, Drimnagh and South Circular Road and artists on a series of projects centred on the theme of storytelling. The projects relate to telling your story, then sharing and co-creating “our” story, supported and inspired by the collection and programmes at the National Concert Hall and Chester Beatty Library.
